Prep Time 15 minutes mins
Cook Time 10 minutes mins
Total Time 25 minutes mins
- 1 pound flank steak or sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
Marinade:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon rice wine or dry sherry
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 inch ginger grated
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 red bell pepper sliced
- 1 cup snow peas or snap peas
Sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce or hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, cornstarch, rice wine, and sesame oil. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 10 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce (or hoisin sauce), rice wine, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Set aside.
Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Stir-Fry the Vegetables: Add the onion to the skillet and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add the broccoli and bell pepper and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until tender-crisp. Add the snow peas and stir-fry for another minute.
Combine and Serve: Return the beef to the skillet. Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
- Beef: Flank steak or sirloin are best for stir-frying. Slice the beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Vegetables: Use any vegetables you like. Other good options include carrots, mushrooms, bok choy, and zucchini. Cut the vegetables into bite-sized pieces for even cooking.
- Sauce: Adjust the sauce ingredients to your preference. You can add more or less sugar, soy sauce, or oyster sauce. A dash of red pepper flakes can add some heat.
- Cooking Time: The cooking time for the beef and vegetables may vary depending on the thickness of the slices and the heat of your stove. The key is to stir-fry quickly over high heat, so the ingredients cook evenly and retain their crispness.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve the stir-fry over steamed rice, brown rice, quinoa, or noodles. You can also garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions.
- Gluten-Free: Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
