Chocolate Mug Cake

Chocolate Mug Cake

A quick and easy single-serving dessert made in a mug in the microwave. Perfect for satisfying chocolate cravings in minutes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or non-dairy milk)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or other mix-ins

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a microwave-safe mug (at least 12 ounces), combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix well with a fork to remove any lumps.
  2. Add wet ingredients: Add vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla extract to the mug. Stir well until the batter is smooth and no dry ingredients remain at the bottom.
  3. Add mix-ins (optional): If using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them into the batter.
  4. Microwave: Microwave on high for 1 minute 30 seconds. Cooking times may vary depending on the wattage of your microwave, so keep an eye on the cake. If necessary, microwave in 10-second intervals until the cake is set in the center. Do not overcook.
  5. Cool slightly and enjoy: Let the mug cake cool for a minute or two before enjoying. It will be very hot.

Notes

  • Use a large enough mug to prevent the cake from overflowing while cooking.
  • If the cake is not cooked through in the center, microwave it for a few more seconds.
  • Do not overcook the cake, as it will become dry.
  • Get creative with toppings! Whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce, and fresh fruit are all delicious options.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • You can substitute other types of flour, such as almond flour or gluten-free flour, but this may affect the texture and cooking time.
  • This recipe is for one serving. Double or triple the recipe if you need to make more, but cook each mug cake individually.
